When To Refer To Podiatry Using Medicare (EPC Plan)
Note: Further visits may be requested via podiatric report post initial assessment.
All Patients Aged 65+ (non-complex)
Require minimum 1 x visit to conduct: Foot health status examination & application for SWEP.
ALL Patients with Complicated Conditions
(Diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, systemic pathology affecting feet). Require minimum of 2x visits to conduct: Foot health status examination & (application for SWEP if aged 65+) or ankle brachial index (ABI) examination.
Available Government Funding Summary
Patients Aged 65+
Eligible for State-Wide-Equipment-Program (SWEP) Funding (annually). Podiatry equipment supplied: Medical footwear, custom orthotics, ankle-foot-orthoses (AFO).
May be eligible for My Aged Care / Home Care package funding. Anyone on this funding can receive government-funded podiatry care & equipment.
Patients Aged 0-64
May be eligible for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
They must qualify with a disability affecting gait to qualify for podiatry funding.
